There is no truth to the assertion that cit izens of Ashland are imparting informa tion to that effect to the tourist. It is true that sign boards have been ereceted in- forming the tourist that he can register his ear in Ashland. The sign boards read: “ Register your car at the Chamber of Com merce.” If the small gimlet, with an auger- size opinion of himself, will take the trou ble to drive to Ashland he can ascertain the wording of the signs. Is there anything unethical about the wording of the signs? Has any grave crime been committed be cause the Ashland Chamber of Commerce and active citizens of the town are calling the attention of tourists to the fact that they can register their cars in Ashland! It is about time for the Herald editor and his clique of Medford citizens to make another raid on the State Capital, aad threaten to blow up the whole official coterie if registration headquarters are There is still hope for the poor and down not removed from all the towns in South- trodden—gas and sugar are both on the era Oregon except Medford,—they want price toboggan. » on th ere will be a special em ployee a t this station fo r this w ork in addition to the regular gasoline service man. Classified ads bring results. IT TAKES MORE THAN “ CO RDS” TO MAKE A "Q D A L/rF” TIRE * legitimate warning that can be pro ductive of only good. This illustration carries out the “constructional” idea we wish to convey. It unplies that the build ing of a quality tire is no small matter and that the process needs a lot of attention. To emphasize this thought we have used “artists' license" and the tire is greatly ex aggerated in size. Inasmuch as accuracy and detail are not involv ed, this ptocedure is quite per missible. We got this thought from the ad of another tire company. It is true and worth repeating. If that com pany recognizes this statement, we don't mind admitting to them that we admire their advertising greatly. Usually they are very fair in their statements in their own behalf, and they usually leave room for other good tires on the market. Once in a while they claim to be The Best on Earth, like so many others do, but in the main they re frain from superlatives — a practice we have committed ourselves to .and appreciate in others. T h e re was a time w hen co rd tires w ere strictly quality tires. . T h is was w hen the sole purpose of building tires of cord construction was to render increased mileage and b etter service. It is really to be regretted that tires cannot be purchased by this same standard today. It is to be regretted that a tire of “ cord construction" is no longer a guarantee of “ quality c o n stru ctio n ” . T h e advent of cheap and unreliable tires of a construction that perm its the* name Cord to be applied, but does not em body w ith it the elem ents for increased service, has altered the original m eaning of the w ord. T oday the m o to rin g public can only be guided by the integrity ot the m anufacturer in determ ining tire quality. As a direct exam ple of w hat w e mean, it is a recognized fket that w e are m aking fabric tires that outw ear m any cord tires on the m arket — and o u r tw o makes of cord tires are proportionately better than o u r fabric line. W e a t tribute this to the fact that w e are adhering strictly to quality standards. The purpose of our advertising is, of course, to create a desire on your part to buy our particular brand of tires. To help you make this decision we name a number of worth while considerations which you are apt to want in the next tires you buy— and we remind you that these can be had by making your selection from our complete line.
